Our Programs

Our International Presenters Program has placed cultural exchange visitors throughout the world - with more than 6,000 participants in America alone. The program offers school communities the unique opportunity to develop greater awareness of global diversity through hosting a visitor from Japan, China or Korea. Presenters work with the school voluntarily, allowing students to explore the culture, customs and traditions of the visitor's country.

Benefits to Host School

Among other topics, students have the opportunity to learn:

  • A variety of languages: (Korean, Japanese and Chinese )
  • Traditional cultural arts: (calligraphy, paper folding, tea ceremony, etc.)
  • Traditional cultural performance: (tea ceremony, dance, music, etc.)
  • Traditional sports and games: (Taekwondo, Sumo, children's games, etc.)
  • Contemporary lifestyles: (school life, housing, foods, cooking, etc.)
  • Skills and topics unique to the Presenter's own interests and specialities

Background of Presenters

IIP Presenters come from diverse backgrounds and are accepted into the program on the basis of their qualifications, personality, communicative ability, experience and purpose of participation. Most are in their 20's and 30's and are in, or have recently graduated from, university. Although some may have experience as teachers in their own country, many presenters are students or ordinary citizens eager to share their culture and language in order to promote understanding and friendship while gaining personal growth and development.

A keen desire to share culture and language with the world is one reason for participating, but additional reasons Presenters join the program include:

  • Improving communication and foreign language skills
  • Learning about educational systems overseas
  • Challenging themselves in preparation for future careers
  • Experiencing daily life in another culture and developing an international mind-set

The Placement Process

Participating in the program is a commitment that requires investing time and energy from both host and visitor. IIP therefore takes great care to ensure placements are assigned with the skills, needs and interests of both sides in mind. In this way, we carefully match host and visitor and by doing so, provide the basis for a highly individual exchange . From this starting point, the potential for the program to evolve and adapt is established. Placements always succeed best where both sides use the program as a framework upon which to develop tailored opportunities. Before committing to the program, hosts can review the full profile of a prospective candidate and raise any questions and concerns relating to individual circumstances. For IIP, this provides an ideal way to discuss how a particular placement can be implemented and explore the the possibilities. To finalize a placement, the host will be required to complete a few key documents.

Prior to commencing their placement, presenters receive guidance, orientation and counselling in order to be able to maximize the potential of the program. Once with their host, the Presenter will be seeking to make a significant contribution to the community and IIP will monitor and support the placement throughout.
